What Fire Risk Compliance Means for You

What Fire Risk Compliance Means for You

Your responsibility as a business

As the responsible person you must carry out and regularly review a fire risk assessment of the premises. This will identify what you need to do to prevent fire and keep people safe.

You can find a good overview of your wider responsibilities on the gov.uk website.

Your responsibility as a landlord

If you are a landlord, you – and your letting or managing agents – both have a legal duty to keep the people who rent your property safe from fire through the provisions of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

You can find a good overview of your wider responsibilities on the gov.uk website.

Protecting your Business and the Home

A fire risk assessment is a methodical investigation of a business premises, highlighting the fire risks and safety levels of the surroundings..Fire risk assessments are an essential part of ensuring your place of business is on the right track. Our assessments provide a thorough review of your current fire policies, responsible person, offering simple, pragmatic advice from our fire and safety consultants on how to improve on those points that aren’t quite up to scratch.  We will compile and issue our report electronically, in a format which complies with the government’s standards (PAS 79).

From 1st October 2006, under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, any non-domestic premises must have a Responsible Person (RP) whose job is to carry out a fire risk assessment. Broadly speaking, the assessment should define measures that will reduce or eliminate the risk of fire and identify persons at risk.

The new fire safety regulations are self-regulatory which means that it is solely the responsibility of the person responsible for the premises to ensure that a fire safety risk assessment is in place and that reasonable steps are taken to reduce or remove risk. There is no longer a policing authority but if there is a fire in your premises and you are found to be negligent or non-compliant with regard to fire safety risk assessment, you will be prosecuted.

It is recommended that this is kept up on a yearly basis.
